Chrissie Desormeau, one of our artisans, with some of the chalkboards she loves to create out of a variety of materials that come into our warehouse.
At Victoria's Antique Warehouse, everything we do is a team effort. From the helpful and knowledgeable sales staff on the floor, to the artisans, painters, carpenters and craftsmen in the back, our goal is to provide a unique, accessible and comprehensive shopping experience to our customer.
With that in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to introduce our talented and dedicated crew with a monthly profile.
This month we're spotlighting Chrissie Desormeau. Chrissie has been working at Victoria's for almost as long as the shop's been open. Hired for her skills in painting, distressing and creating beautifully finished furniture and accent pieces, Chrissie's scope and expertise have grown over the years.
Starting as a child, Chrissie's fascination with creating something from discarded or mismatched parts paved the way to working in jobs that allowed her to utilize her hands and creativity.
Citing her grandparents and dad as inspirations, Chrissie remembers watching her father, who owned a machine shop, repair transistors and TV's. "I was fascinated with how all the different pieces came together to produce the final result,” she says. “I would take the unwanted transistor parts and turn them into earrings and jewelry."
Her grandparents were also a huge influence. Chrissie's grandfather was an accomplished craftsman and inventor (with many patents to his name) and her grandmother was an expert seamstress, quiltmaker and floral arranger.
With all this talent in the gene-pool, it was only natural that Chrissie would work in an artisan field and we feel fortunate to have her on our team. Since our craftsmen have a hand in almost every piece sold, we thought it would be interesting to include their current favorites.
With that in mind, here are Chrissie's Top Three Picks:
Charming, useful and even a little quirky, these chalkboards have been extremely popular. Created in all shapes and sizes (and made-to-order), Chrissie loves them because, she says, "I can take pieces and parts and re-invent them into something entirely different. Vicky gives me free rein to come up with a variety of colors and styles. It's also fun to work with the customer in developing the right design for their specific needs."
"This bed screams romance," says Chrissie. "It's so inviting and beautiful, you just want to climb in and stay."
Antique and French, this bed evokes the Henry II design style with its classic lines and beautifully carved accents. Our craftsmen painted it a gorgeous old white and Chrissie gave it a lovely distress and wax finish to complete the look. Although it's full size, a queen mattress could fit with slight modifications.
This is one of Victoria's Antique Warehouse's signature pieces.
Made entirely from scratch, our kitchen islands have been a huge hit with our customers. We work closely with our clients so the design meets their specific needs. The doors and drawers (or "guts") are made by a cabinet company, and the top, surrounding exterior and accent touches are done by us.
Again, Chrissie loves it because, "We get the ‘shell’ from the cabinet company and we transform it into this stunning piece through our heart pine top, bead board, antique ceiling tin and vintage corbels."
The desired paint color and distressing is the "icing on the cake," and the final result is not only beautiful but extremely functional.
Chrissie's favorites are just a sampling of what we offer at Victoria's Antique Warehouse. Stop in sometime and browse through our extensive selection of antique and custom-made pieces. Our staff would be happy to help you with all your decorating needs.
